Poul Henningsen PH 4/3 Table Lamp, Patented, Denmark, 1920s

An exceptional and early PH 4/3 table lamp designed by Poul Henningsen, Denmark, dating from the 1920s, produced under Henningsen’s original patented three-shade system.

This rare pre-war example features an original painted metal top shade, executed in the classic red exterior with white interior, an early and highly desirable configuration. The middle and lower shades are executed in two-layer opal glass, providing the soft, glare-free illumination that defines Henningsen’s pioneering lighting philosophy.

The lamp retains its early patinated metal stem and base, with rich, authentic wear consistent with age and use. PH table lamps from the 1920s with original painted metal top shades and opal glass lower elements are extremely scarce and represent some of the earliest and most important examples of Danish functionalist lighting.
